Through the Looking Glass and in the Crystal Ball...

“According to the overwhelming majority of financial analysts in the City of London and Wall Street, the world is now in the worst economic crisis since the 1930s” (Timesonline July 17 2008)

For businesses to keep hold of the bottom line what can they do? Chances are that it’s nose to the grindstone, work harder, put in longer hours and look at reducing costs as far as possible

How are these business owners going to know what effect these measures are having on their business and who is going to be there to keep them on track?

The mantra “Location, location, location” maybe needs to change to “diversification, diversification, diversification” for many businesses. Unfortunately I guess that insolvency is going to a big growth area over the coming months for many firms when businesses leave it too long to react or are not kept in the loop by their accountant!

How many businesses now thrive off the back of the “green” market purely by being ahead of the game and identifying the opportunities that exist in the current trading conditions?

There will definitely be opportunities for firms who listen to their clients and present those proactive services that many clients will value.

Many firms are already ahead of the game and no doubt will be approaching your clients that are looking for this help with their glossy marketing brochures and campaigns! How can you keep hold of those clients when you yourselves are going to be under pressure to also work harder, longer hours to counteract the effect of the pressure that many clients will pass on by cutting costs? Maybe it’s time to diversify your service offering yourselves and create time for those clients that will be looking for their virtual or quasi FD to keep them on track before it’s too late!

So for those firms that see (and seize) the opportunity it’s time to switch between the crystal ball and the looking glass. One for financial forecasting and the other for focusing the business owners mind and analysing the effect of the decisions which entrepreneurial business owners are now looking to make with your help.
